eastwoods

The 95-acre Eastwoods was created through property given to the land trust as open space setasides from residential development projects. The Eastwoods trail system was designed by Sally Richards of the GLCT board.

The easiest access to Eastwoods is from the turnaround at the end of East Bearhouse Hill Road. East Bearhouse Hill Road is reached from Podunk Road. A number of cars can be parked at this entrance without blocking driveways. Another entrance to Eastwoods is on Podunk Road near its intersection with Orcutt Drive. A couple of cars may be parked at this entrance, where a metal gate blocks motorized vehicles from the trail system. Maps of Eastwoods and its trails are displayed on wooden signs at both locations.

There are two loop trails at Eastwoods. The main, red-blazed loop trail can be accessed from either of the Eastwoods entrances. The shorter, green-blazed loop trail is linked to the red-blazed trail. The entire trail system, which takes hikers around the circumference of the property, can be walked at a leisurely pace in about 45 minutes. The interior of the property is largely a freshwater marsh.
